My Journey Into the Light

As a child, growing up on a farm in South Africa, I knew the light. It lived within and in the wide skies, the earth underfoot, the animals, the trees — nature held it, plainly and without effort, and I simply belonged to it.

Then came the rollercoaster life. Violent schools, adjusting to a world which seemed so foreign. Opera stages instead of open fields. Decades of searching — through study with masters and elders, through sound and energy work, through sitting with the dying and the grieving. Life took me up and down and sideways, far from that farm, far from that simple knowing. But nature was always waiting, patient, ready to remind me the moment I returned to it — a walk in the trees, bare feet on the earth, and the light would be right there again, exactly where I'd left it.

What I've come to understand is this: nature doesn't give the light to some and withhold it from others. It offers it freely, to everyone, all the time. Barefoot enlightenment isn't a destination reserved for the few — it's with us all, waiting quietly under our feet, in the dirt and grass and open sky, in the city streets and business meetings. We only have to remember how to come back to it.

This is the heart of everything I teach — not a path to somewhere far away, but a way home.
